Maoshang Temple, Taipei – March 2025
Hi everyone, Happy Spring Equinox. 🌺 Greetings from Lampang, Thailand! I am planning to be at my Ashland office for the month of June to resume doing acupuncture and herbs. More details at the end of this email.

Farmstay in Mueang Pan, Lampang

On a recent scooter trip near Chiang Mai, I stopped at Kaewma FarmStay in Mueang Pan, Lampang. And now… I am living there! As well as being a guesthouse, the family grows organic spring-fed black rice and produces coffee

Sky Pagoda, Lampang

Chaeson National Park Hostsprings, Lampang

One of my favorite new places, the Chaeson Hot Springs is about 10 km away from Mueang Pan and features multi-temperature swimmable pools. It is a great place to come in the morning for the sunrise.

Lampang Coffee Festival

The Lampang Coffee Festival of 3 days felt a bit like a local Oregon craft fair – the booths, the art, the cars, camping, family connections.

Chaeson Village Festival

Being here and on this organic rice farm has brought me back to before I began going to acupuncture school in 1985 in Santa Cruz. I was a bit of a young idealist – studying Environmental Studies at UC Santa Cruz. I lived at the Farm and Garden Project on the campus, an organic farm apprenticeship before the organic certification came along. And my time in that UCSC program focused on ecological and economic planning in developing countries using local leadership. I learned a lot but decided to become an acupuncturist rather than an environmentalist or organic farmer.

Years  later in Thailand, I see people who still care about the values I learned at that time. Government officials are incentivizing small farmers to work together and develop their products locally and even internationally. There is true collaboration going on.

Ali Shan Park, Taiwan

I returned to Taiwan in March to see my son Zachariah again, and to visit a couple of new places.
TCM herbology is alive and well in Taiwan – however certain formulas that were available even in October are no longer available.
Which brings me to a relevant point. It may be a great moment to get the Chinese herbs at a reasonable cost while we still can. Tariffs and all that… just sayin’. The ones you need, from sources you trust.
So time to pack up the tea and head back to Oregon for the month of June, hope to see you then ☺️
